Renee Romer, MIHC, LMSW
Renee is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing individual and family therapy to children, teens, emerging adults, and families in the Macomb, MI area. She holds a Master’s of Social Work in Interpersonal Practice and a Master’s in Integrated Healthcare with a Minor in Policy & Evaluation—both from the University of Michigan. She also earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Psychology from Eastern Michigan University.
Renee brings a compassionate, client-centered approach to therapy, drawing from extensive training and certification in trauma-informed care. Her therapeutic style is strength-based, solution-focused, and goal-oriented, creating a warm and interactive environment where clients feel safe, empowered, and understood. She emphasizes emotional regulation, self-discovery, and personal growth.
Her clinical experience spans a wide range of healthcare and mental health settings, including Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan Hospital, the Prechter Bipolar Research Program, the Michigan VA System, and Community Mental Health. She has supported individuals coping with trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, dual diagnosis, and behavioral challenges.
Renee is especially passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families through life transitions and emotional hurdles. She has a particular interest in working with gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) individuals, recognizing the unique strengths and challenges that can come with neurodiversity.
In addition, Renee incorporates animal-assisted interventions into her work with the help of her therapy dog-in-training, Cheese, a hypoallergenic Whippet. When therapeutically appropriate, Cheese offers a comforting presence in sessions to support clients’ emotional well-being and connection.
Renee meets her clients where they are, walking alongside them with compassion and purpose as they build the skills they need to thrive.
